SHOCK-O-RAMA

Misty Mundae makes fun of her movie persona with this new film from the coincidentally named Shock-O-Rama Cinema. She plays scream queen Rebecca Raven, star of low-budget horror/sexploitation flicks, where her fans have one hand on the remote and the other hand occupied elsewhere. After the sleazy filmmakers decide they can simply hire someone else for less to take her place, they watch two movies looking for actresses to cast. So you get an anthology type of picture, with a sci-fi picture, a zombie film, and all kinds of dream sequences, basically finding space for everything in their fevered imaginations.
Is it any good? Well, it’s clever and snappy. Dialogue ain’t that great and neither is acting, but, oh well, you now what I’m saying? When is it, in these kinds of movies? It’s fun and visually appealing, with colorful sequences and nice retro effects (no CGI), and moves fast enough to stave off viewer ennui.
The film gives director Brett Piper a chance to do some old-school film SFX techniques, including stop-motion animation, puppets, make-up, models and of course good old nudity. Good stupid fun. My favorite was the sci-fi segment in the junkyard. The two protagonists are like a white trash version of screwball comedy couples, who have to fight off some tiny aliens that put together an attack bot out of old car parts.
